CHICAGO – On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at approximately 9:16 p.m., an off-duty Chicago Police officer was confronted by several individuals in the 2200 block of W. Maypole. During this confrontation, the offenders fired shots, striking the officer in the arm. The officer was able to return fire and was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in good condition. The offenders are not in custody and detectives are investigating. A weapon was recovered on scene.
Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department. The officers involved will be placed on routine administrative duties for a period of 30 days.
